Rolling Stone's missteps distract from the real story of campus rape
In this article, Reimer discusses the Rolling Stone's magazine article depicting a gang rape on a freshman female at the University of Virginia. According to the Rolling Stone article, Jackie had "left the party bloodied, half-naked and in shock". However, the popular magazine along with the victim were put under intense scrutiny from critics who called a false story. This is where Reimer interjected, claiming the work and effort to bring rape victims' stories to justice would be lost if the critics continued.
Reimer appeals to pathos throughout her article as she is often sympathizing for the victims and the hardship they must have to deal with. She understands the importance of making rape victims feel comfortable coming out about their story so their perpetrators can be brought to justice.
Audience: The critics claiming false-hood
Tone: The tone is very serious throughout the article as the top at hand is very serious.
Purpose: To persuade the critics to change their opinion as the false-hood of such a topic can not be questioned without extreme discomfort
